About Palermo
Palermo is the principal city of the Sicily region of Italy. This city is well adept with highways and train routes. So, getting in and out of here is not really an issue. This city is also Sicily's largest cosmopolitan city. To enjoy the beaches, Palermo has got Mondello. This beach has got exotic sea food. It has also got the Papirato River. Quattro Canti - This square is located at the crossroads between the city's two main streets: Via Vittorio Emanuele and Via Maqueda. It is said that one will always be able to see the sun from this spot, from dawn to dusk. Orto Botanico - These are botanical gardens built on about eleven hectares. You would be able to see plants from all over the world, including some very rare, valuable ones. You can also explore nearly 12,000 species of vegetables here. Fontana Pretoria - This wonderful fountain is made on the square with the same name as that of the fountain. It was built by the Florentine sculptor Francesco Camilliani. Do not miss this charming fountain. Teatro Massimo - This is a very large opera theatre. The theater was designed by Gian Battista Basile around 1868. Kalsa - This is Palermo's Arabic quarter, built close to the sea. In ancient times it was home to the Arabs' entire military contingent when they ruled the city, their administrative and political offices, and also their prisons. Real Tenuta della Favorita - This is an appreciable park. Casina Cinese, which means the Chinese Lodge, is built in this park. Officinal plants, small squares, statues, obelisks and fountains make this park a perfect must-see for everyone. Cappella Palatina - Cappella Palatina contains a harmonious blend of opposing cultures, Byzantine, Norman, Arabic, and Sicilian. It houses some of the most beautiful mosaics in the world that depict famous scenes from the bible. Santa Maria degli Angeli - This is one of the oldest churches of Italy. Gothic entrances and the wooden sculptures, paintings and stuccoes inside the church are a must watch for all the visitors.
